A woman was shocked when her husband asked her why she did not dance for him in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Her response was even more shocking.
Sometimes, in a relationship between husband and wife, frustrations may build over the division of responsibilities. Unfortunately, a woman’s feelings came out unexpectedly during a family holiday dinner.
The woman posted what had happened on Reddit, asking community members if she was in the wrong. According to the Original Poster (OP), she and her husband of six years already had three kids and juggled their careers while raising their children.

The Thanksgiving Conversation
During one Thanksgiving, their family celebrated at the OP’s in-laws’ home. Other family members also joined the dinner as it was a chance for everyone to come together.
While seated around the table, the OP’s brother-in-law shared about his girlfriend’s interest in dancing, which she sometimes does in front of him. He claimed his lover would dance for him nightly after attending her Zumba class.

Stereotypically, the brother-in-law’s story got the attention of all the men. The story soon became a topic of interest while the other women on the table rolled their eyes. However, the OP did not expect her husband to react suddenly.
“All of a sudden, my husband threw his fork and said to me, ‘HEY Jess! Why can’t you dance for me when you come home every night like (BIL’s gf’s name) does?'” the woman said.

The Wife’s Shocking Response
Admittedly, the woman was taken aback by her husband’s question and thought it was a joke. However, when she noticed everyone looking at her, she lost her cool, and blurted out:
“I don’t know, maybe because when I get home I cook then start my cleaning routine then feed the kids dinner, then do the dishes then get our 8 months old to sleep then clean the messy bathroom and bedroom [sic].”

The woman went on to say that she was already exhausted at work all day as a nurse and got even more tired when she came home to a messy house and a family that demanded so much from her. “What a terrible wife I must be not to find time to dance,” she added.
Her Husband Turned Pale
The OP’s husband was shocked beyond belief at her words. An awkward silence followed the woman’s sudden outburst until her sister-in-law’s husband laughed and poked fun at the situation.

Meanwhile, the OP’s husband froze and turned pale in his seat. He eventually noticed everyone’s awkward silence and excused himself to have moments alone. As he left the dining, the OP followed.
When they were away from the crowd, the OP’s husband blew up on her and claimed she embarrassed him in front of his entire family and ruined Thanksgiving dinner. They soon began to bicker and left the celebration as the husband blamed his wife for putting him in an awkward place.

Even when they reached home, the husband couldn’t function properly. The woman gave her husband space and stayed with their children, but even she had no peace of mind following what had happened.
She especially felt guilty after her husband’s stepmother, who did not like him, praised her for what she did. The mother-in-law admired the woman for calling her husband out. However, the woman couldn’t help but think she did not take the right course of action.

Reddit Community Members Comment
The OP’s post received several comments from Reddit users who sided with her. One commenter pointed out that her husband humiliated her by asking such a question in front of all his family members.
Another Reddit community member said the OP’s husband was just embarrassed when he was exposed for not cleaning up after himself. While the woman’s statement gave family members who disliked him a chance to worsen the situation, it was not her fault.
