A pregnant woman’s mother-in-law often hinted that she was getting heavier and would comment on her weight. However, what happened at the woman’s baby shower made her snap and leave the party.
Ideally, a husband and wife should always stand by each other and have each other’s support. This means siding with each other when there are disputes between family members and understanding each other’s point of view.
Unfortunately, the situation was entirely different for a pregnant woman whose husband demanded she apologize to his mother and sister despite them humiliating her.

A woman recently shared what had happened during her baby shower on Reddit and sought help from the community on her actions. The Original Poster (OP), a pregnant and married woman, admitted she has been on the heavier side but never saw it as something awful about herself.
However, since getting pregnant, her mother-in-law has been making snide remarks about her weight gain, making her feel terrible whenever she consumes food. The woman said:
“Whenever I visit, she’d give me [a] smaller plate, portion, cup even spoons. She also buys me ‘small size’ clothes even though I’m in my 2nd trimester and those clothes don’t fit.”

Fortunately, she has a supportive mother and sister behind her, even though they don’t have the best relationship with her husband. The OP’s sister-in-law decided to throw her a baby shower, but because her mom and sister were on bad terms with her husband, they did not attend.
When the OP arrived at the celebration, she saw that cake and juice were being served to the guests. She decided to get a slice of cake to satisfy her hunger, but her mother-in-law stopped her when she motioned to get a piece.

The in-law claimed that her daughter-in-law had already gained too much weight during her pregnancy. “If ‘I keep this’ up her son will not be happy living with ‘a large Walrus,'” the woman shared of her mother-in-law’s words.
Undoubtedly, the OP was shocked that her husband’s mom could say such words out loud and around guests. The woman immediately took her bag and headed towards the door, but not before her sister-in-law could stop her.

The sister-in-law reasoned that the OP couldn’t leave her own party as it would be embarrassing. The pregnant woman agreed to stay, but only if her mother-in-law left. However, her sister-in-law disagreed, so the woman called her mom and sister for a ride and left the venue.
The OP’s husband heard about what had happened and came home angry. He gave his wife a chance to explain why she did what she did but still sided with his mother and sister, who both spent a lot to throw a baby shower.

He claimed his wife was reacting to something so minor and should not make a scene over food. He added that she was too easily offended and should change her ways before passing it on to their son. The husband added:
“He said that I had hours to call and fix things up, but I refused […]. He kept talking about how pissed and let down his mom and sister feel and called me ungrateful and spiteful for doing what I did.”

Despite her husband’s words, the OP did not apologize. Instead, she went to stay with her mom and get away from her husband for a while.
Many Reddit users took the woman’s side and highlighted that the problem was her husband, who did not mediate or stop his mother from making his wife feel overweight. Others advised the woman to stay with her mom and not apologize because she did not overreact.
