Asking Reddit for advice has become increasingly popular, and one user did so because his parents had shamed his fiancée for living in sin. His three older siblings had all married before moving in or shortly afterward.
The original poster (OP) and his fiancée had chosen to live differently from his older siblings, but his parents were unhappy about the arrangement. His parents were so disappointed that they constantly mentioned that the couple was not married.

One Christmas, the entire family had gathered at the OP’s parent’s house for the holidays, and his parents once again brought up the fact that he and his fiancée had moved in together before they got married—the OP thought of a way to quieten his parents for good.
What Happened at Christmas?
The OP was a nurse practitioner, and his fiancée was completing her residency. The OP was also the primary care provider for many women experiencing low-risk pregnancies at the practice where he worked, meaning he had experience with pregnancy and birth.

The OP, his fiancée, his three siblings, his parents, and seven grandchildren gathered around the dinner table at Christmas when the OP’s mother said she was pleased he and his fiancée were finally getting married. She would no longer need to feel embarrassed at church.

His father went further to say he was proud of his older children, who had married before moving in together or who had married soon after they moved in together. The OP saw how uncomfortable the conversation was making his fiancée.
The OP was tired of his parents making his partner uncomfortable and felt that family dinner was the last place to have that kind of conversation. He even clarified that he had repeatedly asked his parents to stop saying that he and his fiancée were not married.
